Global Warming

I’m participating in the Edulogs Student Blogging Challenge #6. I choose to write about why to stop global warming. In the book WEIRD FACTS, BIZARRE STORIES AND LIFE’S ODDITIES, it gives three possible scenarios. The first scenario was the best-case, where there’s a 2.5°F(1.5°C) rise in temperature. Also there would be a an average increase in sea level of 4 inches(10 cm) ,also ice caps will melt at a rate of 75 % per decade, in addition tropical insects, birds, and mammals will migrate towards the poles as the climate and vegetation changes, and increased deaths among elderly, and young. Plus flooding in low line coastal areas. However the second scenario, and most likely is not as good. The temperature would rise 5° F, seas 20 inches, ice caps at 10 percent, mammals will follow insects and birds toward the poles in search of temperate climates, severe flooding in most coastal areas, coastlines shrink back 165 feet, and 30% reduction in forests due to fires, and continuing death tolls to fit and unfit. Last of all the worst scenario, temperatures rise 10°F( 6°C), sea levels rise an average of three feet, ice caps 25 percent, 30 percent of all species of animals will become exctinct, 50% of forests gone due to fires, a global death toll due to food shortage, half of Europe under water as well as swamped cities. The biggest problem is the polar caps. A long time ago, the caps melted at a pace that’s natural, however global warming has sped up the process. Glacier water contains less salt than in regular ocean water, when it mixes with salt water it could change the a density, and salt content, if the change is too great too quickly organisms wouldn’t be able to adapt quickly enough thereby killing them. Also the change in habitat’s natural properties, could make it’s way through the food chain effecting humans, too.
This is why we need to act now. Our overall goal is to achieve the first scenario, however, it is highly unlikely, because we would have to immediately stop polluting and what not. The second would be achieved if we gradually increased our efforts in preventing global warming. The worst warming, that could possibly happen is the last, where we would make no effort at all to prevent the warming. Let’s all do our best to prevent global warming.

This is my second try to leave a comment. Clear, concise, and short. Good job!
