The Battle of Thermopylae

by on Apr.25, 2012, under history

In the second paragraph, describe the battle in detail using descriptive sense words.

What does battle smell like?

What can you taste in the air?

What does your hearing warn you about?

Describe the feel of your weapon.

Finally, what do you see before your eyes?

I am a Spartan fighting at Thermopylae

I am a Spartan warrior fighting at the Battle of Thermopylae. I was chosen to by King Leonidas to be one of the Spartans to defend Greece by holding off the Persians, to give time for the Athenians to abandon Athens.

The battle smelled from my fallen enemies and comrades. The air tasted of blood. I see comrads and Persian soldiers dying all around me. My weapon feels of hard wood in my hand.

Math Blog Post 3/30

by on Mar.30, 2012, under Uncategorized

This week in Math  I learned about area, perimeter, and circumference. You can find area by multiplying base times height or length times width. For perimeter you add up the lengths of each side. Circumference is the perimter of a circle where you multiply the diameter by pi (3.14), or the radius by 2 pi. That is what I learned in math this week.

Spartan Letter

by on Mar.30, 2012, under Uncategorized

Dear Mom and Dad,

I wanted to write to tell you how proud I am to be a Spartan. I think growing up in an Oligarchy has made me a more productive soldier. With more than one leader to make decisions, important decisions are made more wisely. I am also thankful for growing up in a society where my miliary abilities are important and where I feel accepted for my talents. I love marching around the city. I know that I will only get better by continuing my training with master warriors involved in my training.

Compared to the horrible city-state, Athens, Sparta is a wonderful place to live because we have helots, no trouble from strangers, and a strong military. Those weak-minded Athenians spend too much time building a democracy, teaching boys to play games(sports), and playing frivilous music. The future is bright for Sparta because we have such great leaders and are expanding are borders through conquest. I look forward to growing old in a society where old people were senior citizens shape the laws. Long live SPARTA!
Love, Dimitris

by on Mar.07, 2012, under Uncategorized

In this post, I’m pretending that I am 65 years old and giving advice to my middle school self. So far in my 65 years my last few years has been kind of boring, but the first half of my life so far has been exciting.I have played a lot of sports, and gone to college (University California Santa Barbra), and got a job as a lawyer. The last few years have had nothing exciting.

But there’s a bit of advice I’d like to give you . There are some things you should do more, like exercise and keep active in multiple things, and save money. But also you’re doing good with other things like blogging(and school)

Confucianism Today

by on Feb.21, 2012, under Uncategorized

Confucius was a great Chinese thinker. He was born in a small state in China called Lu, during the times of chaos after the Zhou Dynasty fell apart. It was during a time of great violence and chaos. He was important to China because he made a religion/belief which was later named after him.  He also helped develop a sense of order throughout China. He sought peace through a sense of duty, and that people should put others needs before their own. He also believed that people owed each other duty (e.g. Parents owed their children love and children owed their parents honor). He traveled throughout China asking the government to follow his idea and that if you had a talent for government you should take part in government.

I think a society could benefit from following Confucius, because Confucianism is based on developing a sense of duty.  One example of how  it would benefit a society would be one of Confucius’s quotes,”What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others”.  Another example would be that if you judge yourself by the others around you, and every one else in the society does to, than everyone will be doing their best so that they won’t be the person that makes everyone else look bad.

“There are those who act without knowing, I will have none of this. To hear a lot, choose the good, and follow it, to see a lot and learn to recognize it: this is next to knowledge.”  – Confucius

Florida Fog Incident

Florida Fog Incident

The  unusual form of the fog in Florida, was caused by the hotter temperatures. Because land heats/cools faster, the fog had to rise higher to complete the convection cycle, and because the water was so much cooler the clouds didn’t go as far out .
